Several people have voiced opinions about a plan to build a bike path between Corvallis and Albany. The “Rails to Trails” path is planned to run along Highway 20 near existing railroad tracks.

Benton County Public Works is asking people to support a bicycle path along U.S. Highway 20 by encouraging Oregon Department of Transportation to move funding for it to the top of the heap.
ODOT is seeking comments on projects being considered for Transportation Enhancement funding through Sept. 15.
Writing in the reader comments after the GT story, im writes:

I work in Albany and live in Corvallis so it would be nice to save some gas and get some extra exercise. I wouldn’t say I’d ride it every day but I think I would use it. I think you would have to be crazy to ride on the HWY 20 shoulder.

Hops421 disagrees:

Why waste money on yet another bike path? Most byciclists ride on the highway even if there is a nice bike path to use.

Blewey got philosophical:

This is a necessary step to improve our transportation infrastructure. We need this to break free from our energy dependencies.
